ATMS School Goal
|
Abbotsford Traditional Middle School has a school focus that includes an emphasis on academic achievement. The basic tool to support achievement in all areas of curriculum is literacy.
Literacy is a continuing concern in our country today. According to World Literacy Canada, (worldlit.ca), statistics on Canadian literacy, 22% of adult Canadians have serious problems dealing with printed materials. About 45% of new Canadian jobs created this decade will require at least 16 years of education. Canadians with the lowest level of literacy skills have an unemployment rate of 26% compared to 4% for Canadians with the highest literacy levels. As a school we are concerned with developing highly literate, responsible and successful students. |
School Planning Councils
|
School Planning Councils are advisory bodies. Their major responsibility is to develop, monitor, and review school plans for student achievement in consultation with the school community.
School plans are part of a provincial accountability framework to improve student results. |
Plans developed by school planning councils are connected to district accountability contracts, Aboriginal enhancement agreements and the Ministry of Education district review process
School planning councils reach out to all members of the school community: parents, students, teachers, and support staff. School plans reflect the characteristics, values, and needs of the school community.
